Triangle Business Journal’s weekly feature, “The Promise Of” was developed in August 2020 to intentionally highlight and create a vibrant bazaar for businesses to buy products and services from Black businesses in the 16-county Triangle region.
A selected committee of nine Black leaders representing academia, business, public policy and General Assembly lobbyists started talking via video conference to develop the structure of “The Promise Of” project. At the center was the legacy of Andrea Harris, the longtime proponent of Black businesses who pushed large companies and government agencies to forge ties, and do business with the minority business community.
We are thankful for the corporate support shown by Credit Suisse, First Citizens Bank, PNC Bank, and WakeMed who have long supported TBJ on projects of importance to the community.
TBJ’s judging panel selected one person who exemplifies Andrea’s legacy and who already has vowed to continue her mission of building that bridge between business community and corporate America. The winner for 2021 is Anita Brown-Graham, ncIMPACT Initiative Director and Gladys Hall Coates Professor at UNC School of Government. Join our virtual fireside chat with Anita and TBJ’s Editor in Chief, Sougata Mukherjee.
